In the Collection of Greek and Roman Antiquities we encounter Athena Promachos, cast in metal. Here she is her own shell, achieving her full three-dimensional form with the viewers’ help. With a kick she gets up, is air and quickly disappears again.
The work plays with overcoming binaries, absolutisms, and norms: through the fragility of the condition, the repeated diluting and creating of form and meaning, and the reversal of boundaries.
